Tombstone Tuesday – John and Sophronia Fox
John A. Fox and Sophronia Maynard were my 3rd great-grandparents. I’m not quite sure what they were doing in Oklahoma or why they were buried there as neither of them were from OK. They might have had children living there when Sophronia died in 1917. I haven’t done much research on this side of the family yet. John actually died in 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He had been living there for 7 years when he died. I believe he was living with his son Dilliard Fox in Indiana when he died. I’m looking forward to doing more research on this side of the family.

These may be my ancestors also. My Great Grandfather was John Marion Fox (AR) His son was Jesse Fox (AR). My Mother Willie Fox was born in Pottawatomie. OK. in 1910. They all went to Oklahoma to find work. Sometimes it was migrant work. Some of the Foxes went to Indiana to work. Mine came back to Arkansas and the family has been there for something like 150 years. The Foxes were in Georgia before AR, IN or OK.

Hi Linda, John Marion Fox sounds very familiar. I am looking at William and Jane Fox for the parents of John Fox and there is a Marion Fox who is in this family as well. They were on the 1850 Jackson Co., TN census and 1860 Jackson Co., TN census
Yes, John and Saphronia Fox were in Rogers Co., OK in 1910 and that’s where their daughter Connie Fox was born, and possibly Daisy Fox as well.
Some people get my John Fox confused with another John Fox in IN, even confusing the two as the father of Dillard Fox. But I think there were two different John Fox’s in IN in the 1920s.
